Patriots Blown Out By Barnstormers

(PR) Bridgewater, NJ – The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Somerset Patriots 13-5 before 5,966 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.

Lancaster scored in the top of the second inning after first baseman Adam Witter doubled and second baseman Lloyd Turner followed with a single to bring him around to score. Center fielder Joe Gaetti (11) then blasted a two run homerun to left field to give the Barnstormers a 3-0 lead.

The Barnstormers added a run in the top of the third inning on a solo homerun by shortstop Bryant Nelson (13) to make the score 4-0.

Somerset answered with two runs in the bottom of the third inning after third baseman Jeff Nettles singled and scored on a two run homerun by designated hitter Josh Pressley (14) to cut the lead 4-2.

Lancaster scored in the top of the fourth inning on a solo homerun by designated hitter Reggie Taylor (15) for the 5-2 lead.

The Patriots cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Second baseman Matt Hagen started it off with a double, left fielder Elliott Ayala reached on an error that scored Hagen, and Ayala came around to score on a groundout by shortstop Iggy Suarez.

The Barnstormers scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning after Nelson singled and right fielder Jason Perry (19) hit a two run homerun to right field for the 7-4 advantage.

Lancaster scored six runs in the top of the six the inning. A two run double by third baseman Aaron Herr that plated left fielder Michael Woods and Perry highlighted the rally for the Barnstormers and gave them a 13-4 lead.

Somerset scored in the bottom of the sixth inning after catcher Jason Belcher singled, advanced around the bases to third, and scored on a fielder’s choice by first baseman Joe Burke to make the score 13-5.

Lancaster starter Jose Sanchez (4-8) picked up the win after allowing five runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Somerset starter Jason Monti (2-6) got the loss, surrendering seven runs on eight hits in five innings pitched.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Wednesday, August 11th when the Patriots return home to battle the York Revolution at 7:05 pm at TD Bank Ballpark.
