Bluefish Beat Patriots On Sunday

(PR) Bridgewater, NJ – The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

Bridgeport jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a solo homerun by right fielder Danny Putnam (5).

The Bluefish added to their lead in the top of the third inning after shortstop Brandon Chaves singled, center fielder Tike Redman singled, and Putnam singled to score Chaves. Left fielder Steve Moss followed with a single to bring home Redman and second baseman Hiriam Bocachica hit into a fielder’s choice to score Putnam for the 4-0 advantage.

Bridgeport scored in the top of the seventh inning after Bocachica singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI single by first baseman Luis Lopez. Third baseman Joe Jianneti then singled, catcher Luis Rodriguez singled to load the bases, and Chaves followed with a walk to force home Lopez and make the score 6-0.

Somerset fought back by scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Shortstop Iggy Suarez singled, second baseman Tim Raines Jr. singled, Suarez then advanced to third and came around to score on a fielder’s choice by center fielder Wayne Lydon. First baseman Joe Burke followed with a single to plate Raines Jr., left fielder Noah Hall walked, and Burke scored after third baseman Jeff Nettles reached on an error to cut the lead to 6-3.

The Bluefish added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning after Rodriguez walked, Chaves singled, and Redman singled to bring home Rodriguez for the 7-3 final.

Bridgeport starter Denny Stark (6-2) got the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings pitched. Somerset starter Jonathon Ellis (1-1) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings pitched. Antonio Alfonseca got his first save on the season after pitching 1.2 scoreless innings.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue on Monday evening when the Patriots take on the Bridgeport Bluefish at 7:05 pm at TD Bank Ballpark.
