Patriots Finish First Half Over .500

(PR) Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

Lancaster scored to take the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a solo homerun by designated hitter Aaron Herr (9) to make the score 1-0.

Somerset answered back to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Right fielder Michael Hernandez walked, designated hitter Josh Pressley was hit by a pitch, and second baseman Matt Hagen walked to load the bases. Third baseman Pete LaForest followed with a two-run double to left field to plate Hernandez and Pressley. Hagen would come around to score on a groundout by catcher Jason Belcher for the 3-1 advantage.

The Patriots scored in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Pressley doubled, Hagen walked, and LaForest walked to load the bases. Catcher J.R. Hopf followed with a single to score Pressley, shortstop David Housel singled to score Hagen, and center fielder Wayne Lydon singled to drive in LaForest.

The Barnstormers added two runs in the top of the ninth inning after left fielder Michael Woods walked, shortstop Bryant Nelson walked, and Woods came around to score on an RBI single by right fielder Reggie Taylor. Nelson would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Ryan Mulhern for the 6-3 final.

Somerset starter Josh Miller (6-4) picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits in five innings pitched. Sean Thompson (1-6) got the loss for Lancaster, allowing six runs on four hits in five innings pitched.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue after the All-Star break on the road until the Patriots return home on July 16th to battle the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at 7:05 pm. The game includes a Post-Game Fireworks Show presented by Saint Peter’s University Hospital.
