(PR) Waldorf, MD – Jarrett Santos was untouchable through five innings, got into trouble in the 6th but his Southern Maryland Blue Crabs scored five runs in their last three trips to the plate to notch a 7-2 win over the Somerset Patriots on Friday night at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Somerset got a bunt single on the first pitch of the game from Wayne Lydon and a one-out walk from Matt Hagen in the 2nd. Those would be the only two baserunners of the first five frames against Santos. He had retired 11 in a row before Elliott Ayala and Tim Raines Jr. tallied base hits to start the 6th and were brought home by Noah Hall on a double, tying the game at 2-2. But Somerset’s offense would not score against the Blue Crab bullpen with one hit to their name the rest of the way.

Mike Thompson danced into and out of trouble all night, allowing 1st and 5th inning runs. But the former Padre stranded eight men on base in those five innings as his offense tied the game at 2-2 in the 6th. However, in the bottom of the frame with a runner at second, Jamar Hill launched a fly ball down the left field line which was originally called a foul ball. After a conversation of umpires, the call was overturned and the Blue Crabs took a 4-2 lead. Thompson (3-3) finished 5.2, allowing nine hits, four runs, three earned. The Blue Crabs added insurance runs with one against Jerry Dunn in the 7th and two on Carlos Hines in the 8th for a 7-2 final margin.

Somerset (33-27) and Southern Maryland (35-25) square off in game two of the series on Saturday night. Jesse Darcy (1-5, 5.98) and southpaw Craig Anderson (2-0, 1.93) will take the hill as coverage begins at 6:30 pm on 1450 WCTC-AM and online at and
