Another Patriots Game, Another Walk-Off

(PR) Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots defeated the Newark Bears 2-1 in ten innings before 7,117 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning and one-out, left fielder Michael Hernandez drove an RBI single down the left field line for the 2-1 win.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Shortstop Elliott Ayala reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single by second baseman Tim Raines, Jr.

Newark tied up the game with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Left fielder James Cooper singled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Scott Spiezio.

Patriots reliever Ryan Houston (2-1) picked up the win with a scoreless tenth inning and two strikeouts. Bears reliever Michael Mehlich (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on two hits in 0.1 innings pitched.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue on Saturday, June 5th with a 7:05 pm game against the Newark Bears. The game includes a Post-Game Fireworks Show presented by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
