Sweeney, Muecke Updates

Brian Sweeney left the Patriots just 48 hours into spring training, signing with the Seattle Mariners.  Josh Muecke made a grand total of one regular season start before departing, plucked away by the Colorado Rockies.  One player seems to be headed back to the big leagues, while the other has struggled early on.

Sweeney (pictured) has been tearing it up for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, going 2-0 with a team-leading 1.69 ERA in 12 relief appearances.  In 21 1/3 innings, the former big leaguer has a WHIP of just 0.98 (13 H, 8 BB) and has struck out 27 batters, tops among relievers on the team.  He’s also yet to allow a home run on the season.

As for Muecke, it’s been a rough go.  In his first six starts with Colorado Springs, he’s 0-3 with a 7.90 ERA.  He’s allowed 42 hits in 27 1/3 innings of work, but has walked only six batters while striking out 16.
