Belcher Does It Again

(PR) Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 2-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep of the series.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon singled, advanced to second on a single by left fielder Noah Hall, and scored on an RBI single by second baseman Matt Hagen.

Lancaster answered with a run in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by catcher Adam Witter (3).

Somerset regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hagen was hit by a pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly by catcher Jason Belcher. It was third straight game that Belcher had the game-winning hit for the Patriots.

Patriots reliever Ben Grezlovski (2-0) got the win after tossing two scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out two. Barnstormers starter Jose Sanchez (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched. Patriots reliever Brian Henderson picked up his first save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, May 31st when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the York Revolution at 1:05 pm. The game is a special Memorial Day Celebration with $1.00 Hot Dogs throughout the game.
