Camden Takes Second Game To Split Doubleheader

(PR) Bridgewater, NJ – The Camden Riversharks defeated the Somerset Patriots 5-2 on Wednesday night at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Riversharks wasted no time, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a lead off home run by center fielder Chris Walker (1).

The Patriots answered to even up the score with a run in the bottom of the inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by second baseman Matt Hagen.

Camden regained the lead with a run in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by catcher Raul Padron (2) for a 2-1 advantage.

Somerset once again answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Left fielder Tim Raines singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by shortstop Elliott Ayala to tie up the game at 2-2.

The Riversharks broke the tie in the top of the sixth inning. Left fielder Garrett Guzman singled and later scored on an RBI groundout by second baseman Chris Malec for a 3-2 lead.

Camden extended the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh inning on a two-run home run by Walker (2), his second of the game to make the score 5-2.

Camden starter Steve Sharpe (3-0) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits in five innings pitched. Patriots starter Tom Mastny (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in five innings pitched. Blaine Neal earned his second save of the season for Camden.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Camden Riversharks. The game includes 5-Time Champions Baseball Card Strips (1st 2,000) and Faith Night presented by Somerset Christian College.
