Patriots Add Kennard, Hernandez; Pressley To DL

(PR) Bridgewater, NJ – The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the signings of right-handed pitcher Jeff Kennard and outfielder Mike Hernandez.

Kennard has experience in the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Cincinnati Reds organizations, including two seasons at the Triple-A level.

Kennard played in 40 games for Louisville, the Triple-A affiliate of the Reds, last season and finished with a 3-1 record, a 2.83 ERA, and 48 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched.

Kennard has a minor league career record of 36-26, a 3.44 ERA, and 432 strikeouts in 518 innings pitched in 338 games.

Hernandez has experience in the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets organizations, including a season at Double-A.

Hernandez played 93 games during the 2009 season with the Newark Bears and finished with a .302 average, 47 runs scored, 93 hits, 24 doubles, 11 home runs, and 51 RBI.

He has a minor league career .277 average with 170 runs, 334 hits, 73 doubles, 48 home runs, and 226 RBI in 330 games played.

In other team news, catcher Pete LaForest has been placed on the inactive list and first baseman Josh Pressley has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 3rd.

    I like Hernandez. He has some pop in his bat. Brooklyn native. Former Mets prospect.
