Miller’s Gem Leads Patriots Over York

(PR) York, PA – Josh Miller took a perfect game into the fifth and a no-hitter into the sixth as he pitched the Somerset Patriots to a 5-1 win over the York Revolution and a fourth straight victory on Tuesday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

Miller (2-0) sent down the first 13 men he faced before allowing a walk to Val Majewski in the fifth. The right-hander wasn’t deterred as he finished off the frame with a double play. The Revs erased the no-hitter and the shutout on one swing on Ian Bladergroen’s solo home run to lead off the sixth. Miller only allowed one more hit and finished his night with a flourish, striking out the side in the seventh.

The Patriots offense staked Miller to a quick lead in the first against left-hander Jesus Sanchez when Wayne Lydon led off the game with a double and moved to third on an error. Ryan Freel brought the leadoff man home on a sacrifice fly. Sanchez was hit hard again in the third when Iggy Suarez bombed a deep drive over the 38-foot “Arch Nemesis” wall in left field to make it 2-0. That would be all the offense the Patriots would need. Nonetheless, Somerset added two more in the seventh on a Lydon triple and a final mark in the ninth with a Tim Raines Jr. solo shot.

Sanchez (1-1) was done after six innings, allowing six hits and two runs. For the Patriots, the bullpen continued to pitch smoothly as Brian Henderson and Ryan Houston pitched a scoreless final two innings.

Somerset (5-5) is now a half game back of the first play Revolution (6-5) heading into game two. A 6:30 first pitch is schedule on Wednesday as Justin Jones (0-0, 12.00) will square off with fellow southpaw Shane Youman (0-1, 6.14). Coverage begins at 6:25 on 1450, WCTC-AM and online at http://www.wctcam.com and http://www.somersetpatriots.com.

NOTES: Miller is now 5-0 in his career vs. York with a 2.12 ERA…after stranding a season-low six runners on Saturday, besting that on Sunday leaving four, the Patriots only left three men on base Tuesday…Jeff Nettles had his nine-game on-base streak snapped, going 0-4…this marks back-to-back games where the Patriots have hit two home runs…Freel had his first two-hit game as a Patriot…Suarez’s home run was just the 18th of his career.
